New York based Shy Child release their debut single 'Noise Won't Stop' in the UK on Good & Evil 28th November. The single will be released on limited edition 7" only and feature the b-side 'The Dub Won't Stop'. Good and Evil is an imprint of 679 recordings set up by renowned producer and DJ Paul Epworth.
Shy Child was formed in NYC in 2000 by Pete Carfarella, (Synths, Vocals) and Nate Smith, (Drums). Both hold a fascination with electronic music and a love of progressive rock, resulting in a combined force of swirling, melodic keyboard, backed with powerful infectious drum beats and layers of driving vocals think hints of Daft Punk, Silver Apples and Timbaland all mixed into one glorious sound. 'Noise Won't Stop' is the catchiest tune this side of the summer. Shy Child plan to grace the UK for a number of shows in early 2006. With a further single release and ep around that time.
Shy Child was born in 2000, shortly after former college friends Pete Cafarella (synths, vocals) and Nate Smith (drums) moved separately to New York City. Pete had cut his teeth recording for avant composer Anthony Braxton as well as becoming an integral member of El Guapo (Dischord Records), and Nate had been playing drums for such revered NYC duo Touchdown. Both Nate and Pete had played together in bands before, and started playing as a synth/drums duo in Nate's bedroom, writing songs that touched upon their fascination with electronic music and their love of progressive rock. They quickly evolved into a strong live act, playing shows with both rock bands and DJ's.
In early 2001 Shy Child recorded what would be their first album, "Please Consider Our Time", at a practice space and then mixed it in Pete's bedroom. After selling it in local record shops as a demo, the album was released properly in 2002 by Montreal's Grenadine Records, and in 2003 in Japan by Tokyo's Romz Records. Shy Child followed up with "The Humanity EP" in late 2003, the same year they remixed Tigerbeat6 artists Stars As Eyes.
By 2003, Shy Child had shifted their focus away from electronics and prog-rock, stripping down their live act to its barest elements: live synths, drums, and vocals. Their songwriting lost its boundaries, and their music became more about fun than anything else. In early 2004, they made a short tour of Japan, playing with members of such seminal Japanese bands as the Ruins and Boredoms. They returned and immediately, began work on their next album, "One With The Sun", with producer Chris Zane (Calla, Les Savy Fav, Inouk) on Say Hey Records. The result is a combined force of swirling, melodic keyboard, backed with powerful, infectious drum beats - think hints of Daft Punk, Silver Apples, and Timbaland mixed into one glorious sound - add in driving vocals layered on top, and you get what will surely be one of the catchiest full length albums to be released this year. Get stuck into the new dance music vein, this record is not to be ignored.
"Rick James may be beading his hair braids in a better place now, by Brooklyn duo Shy Child can be counted on to keep it freaky...You won't know whether to shake your ass or rock the fuck out." - Blackbook
"...Synths bleat at the alarming frequency of, say, the Rapture caught in a meat grinder. Though there are many who seek to meld punk, funk and dance into a lockdown groove, few maximize the opportunity to infuse their music with this much energy. Just one listen will have you bouncing 'round the room." - Paper Magazine
"Paranoid and tense, Shy Child's grooves bounce around the room like knives off a ceiling fan" - Junkmedia
"With clap-along melodies and rhythms that border on disco, you'd have to be pretty square not to feel like dancing on tracks like "Break Your Neck" and "Technicrats"...They've established themselves as New York City's latest dance machine." - All Music
"...All claws and hypnotic propulsion, getting surprising milage from a bare bones engine." - XLR8R
